Equivalent in size to 14 football pitches, the Amazon fulfilment centre located 40km south of Madrid in the town of Illescas, Spain, is the largest distribution centre in the country. We provided architectural and engineering services for the 118,000 m2 logistics hub, as well as construction governance and client advisory services.
This particular distribution centre is equipped to handle large volume orders and uses the most advanced technology, including floor guided vehicles – to receive, store and distribute heavy and bulky products such as furniture, appliances and even swimming pools.
The fulfilment centre is in the Plataforma Central Iberum – the most environmentally friendly and sustainable industrial park in Spain, which contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint in a significant way, becoming the first LIFE+ Eco Polygon in Europe. To ensure energy-efficiency, various eco-sustainable technologies have been employed, such as LED lighting, thermal insulation, and solar panels to provide energy and heating.
As well as this, the logistics park provides dedicated bike lanes and large outdoor recreative spaces for both employees and the local community.
